The simple truth is that we needed to extend our Indian visas and so we went to Sri Lanka. We spent 3 nights in Gampaha District with a couchsurfer. Our energetic host insisted we see Colombo, helped us map out a generic travel plan based largely on famous Sri Lankan sights and most importantly provided us with the first ceramic input we needed to set our course.
Piliyandala is a suburb of Colombo city and home to many ceramic factories. We had a glance around the factory of Anuradha Ceramics and met a ceramic student, Amrita, who similar to ourselves is on a journey with clay. She was an invaluable source of information and helped us greatly in experiencing Sri Lankan pottery.
After three days, we left Colombo for Hikkaduwa where we’d heard of a ceramic factory.
